Coastal Carolina Research Center (CCRC) is a trusted clinical research center dedicated to helping patients access new treatment options while advancing medical research. Founded in 1997, CCRC has grown from a small community-based practice into a leading research facility, featuring 19 full-size exam rooms which has allowed us to conduct over 700 clinical trials across a wide range of therapeutic areas.

Dr. Catherine Kramp is a Board-Certified Pediatrician that has over 8 years of clinical experience and 3 years of research experience. She has been training for research with a PI containing over 22 years clinical trial experience, integrating some scales for practice within the private pediatric office they practice. Her independent clinical research site has been conducting clinical research for over 25 years and has recently expanded, doubling their original office space. -
Elizabeth Perkins

Dr. Perkins obtained her undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Philosophy from the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as a John and Abigail Adams Scholar. She attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York. She completed residency training in psychiatry at the University of Miami, Florida, where she was awarded the Balloveras Intern of the Year Award and later served as Chief Resident.
She continues her relationship with the University of Miami by giving an annual lecture to their resident psychiatrists. Following residency, she accepted a position as a staff psychiatrist at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Miami, where she supervised resident psychiatrists.
In 2022, she transferred to the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston South Carolina where she worked exclusively with patients struggling with addiction. She served as an Associate Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina and supervised residents rotating in the VA Substance Treatment and Recovery Clinic. While at the VA, she won a $50,000 grant from the U.S. government to fund a harm reduction program, which was recognized by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs as one of the most successful in the United States and used as a model for other VA Medical Centers.
She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Her writing has been published by Springer Nature and Oxford University Press.

Dr. Paul Robbins is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist, and works in a private psychiatric practice as well as our independent research site. Dr Robbins and his site have worked on 50+ research trials since 2005, with recruitment support from both the research office as well as private practice databases. Site is experienced in required scales, redirecting subjects as required, IP compliance, and management. Dr Robbins completed residency in 2001 and has been treating a multitude of psychiatric indications since. -

Dr. Santiago’s trial experiences range between Immunology, Dermatology, Metabolic, Pain Management, and sub-investigator participation within Neurology, Pediatrics, and Musculoskeletal therapeutic areas, among other criteria. Having quickly immersed herself to the site practices, Dr. Santiago has rapidly built a competitive PI portfolio while diversifying site practices with her bilingual aptitude. -
Gordon Teichner

Gordon Teichner PhD
Dr. Gordon Teichner is a published and Board-Certified Psychologist with 28 years of clinical experience and 13 years of research experience. Given his early work within the Neuropsychology field, Dr. Teichner has built a hefty rating scale portfolio, having completed certifications for over 250 rating scales. As an avid rater, Dr. Teichner is looked to at the Coastal Carolina Research Center for all things “ratings” and expertise within the Neuropsychology field. Through the conduction of his currently 54+ trial participation, Dr. Teichner’s research experience ranges through therapeutic indications such as MDD, SAD, Eating Disorders, ADD/ADHD, OCD, Smoking Cessation, PTSD, Tourette’s, among others. Given his early book publication on Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder in Children and Adolescents and a plethora of Newsletter publications, Dr. Teichner is sought after for his diligent work in medical literature and actively is found presenting, completing peer book reviews, among other medical practices to maintain his repertoire. -
Shailesh Patel

Dr. Shailesh Patel is a Board-Certified Pain Medicine specialist with experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr Patel operates within a large private orthopedic group practice with embedded research personnel. The research site has experience on over 700 clinical trials with an array of seasoned staff members. The site offers x-ray capability across the hall from the research department which allows for ease of access and convenience for patients. The orthopaedic practice also owns an outpatient surgical suite. Sub-Investigator support exists both at the orthopedic private practice as well as the full-time research site. -
Shannon Conrad

Dr. Shannon Conrad is a board certified family physician, investigator and research physician with Alcanza Clinical Research. She received her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her internship and residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She has practiced in both Family Medicine and Urgent Care and currently works full time as a principal investigator in clinical research. Her areas of expertise in research include general medicine, weight loss medicine, vaccine trials, and cardiovascular studies.

Blake Ohlson

Dr. Blake Ohlson is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon as well as a Foot and Ankle Specialist with over 28 years of clinical experience and a quickly growing research portfolio, starting in 2022. The Charleston Sports Medicine Associates clinic, alongside the Coastal Carolina Research Center have worked jointly for an extended time, conducting Orthopedic clinical trials while also participating in many other indications. Dr. Ohlson maintains continuous education within his specialty as an assistant professor of Orthopedics at the Medical University of South Carolina. To date, Dr. Ohlson has assisted in the conduction of several clinical trials. The Coastal Carolina Research Center has completed over 85 Orthopedic trials with the Charleston Sports Medicine facility. With the assistance of Dr. Ohlson’s robust private practice internal database, the trials conducted have successfully met trial enrollment. Additionally, he has completed an abundance of regenerative medicine, ortho biologics, shock wave therapy, EMTT, PRP, among other therapies. Given his vast experience, Dr. Ohlson is known for practicing in more rigorous indications, often catering to a rare patient population.Â
