Charlottesville Medical Research (CMR) is a trusted clinical research site with over 25 years of experience serving the community. Since its founding in 1991, CMR has successfully conducted 500+ clinical trials, helping advance treatments across a wide range of conditions, including diabetes, obesity (weight loss), hypertension, osteoarthritis, migraines, and more.
Today, CMR continues to build on that strong foundation, including multiple studies focused on obesity and diabetes, two of the most prevalent health conditions in the U.S.
CMR operates out of a modern 5,000-square-foot facility with fully equipped exam rooms and maintains IBC and FWA approvals, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, ethics, and regulatory compliance. The team is experienced in all aspects of clinical research, including participant support, lifestyle counseling, and study coordination.

James Clark

James Clark, MD, is Alcanza’s Chief Medical Officer. With 25 years of clinical research experience including serving as Principal Investigator on over 400 clinical trials, Dr. Clark brings a wealth of experience and leadership to our team, patients, and sponsors.
As the CMO, Dr. Clark oversees the medical team at Alcanza including Investigators and Sub-Investigators. He is responsible for driving medical strategy and providing clinical support and direction across the Alcanza network. Dr. Clark serves as the Chairman of the Alcanza’s Medical Advisory Board which consists of 20 experienced Investigators as well as members of the Business Development, Quality, and Operation teams.
Prior to joining Alcanza, Dr. Clark owned and operated Charlottesville Medical Research (CMR) which specializes in Phase II-IV clinical research, where he led CMR in its growth from 15 to 60+ indications.
Dr. Clark is board-certified in Internal Medicine and licensed to practice in every state where Alcanza operates a research site.

Kristen Holtz

Dr. Kristen Holtz D.O
Dr. Kristen Holtz is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician since 2021 and newly joined PI within Alcanza in 2024. Although having commenced her research career with Alcanza in 2024, Dr. Holtz comes well versed in over 130 rating scales and has Sub-I experience in 22+ trials. Dr. Holtz’s experience ranges throughout ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Obesity, Migraines, Hypertension, Diabetes, Vaccine Development, Pain Management, Preventative Care, Women’s Health, among other therapeutic criteria. In a very short time, Dr. Holtz has quickly adapted to the Charlottesville Medical Research Center practices, where she is joined by Dr. James Clark, CMO and KOL for Alcanza Clinical Research. With the well experienced staff, multi-therapeutic equipped facility, and diverse patient database, Dr. Holtz is looked to for her crucial expertise to help advance the established clinical practices. -

Dr. Nicole Jensen M.D
Dr. Nicole Jensen is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician. Although new to the Alcanza network, Dr. Jensen comes well experienced in clinical research. She is a published physician, experienced in a number of rating scales, and has conducted trials within Cardiology, Endocrinology/Metabolic, Musculoskeletal, Immunology, among others. With her experience, Dr. Jensen brings Charlottesville Medical Research the opportunity for a greater opportunity to broaden the sites experience. Given the extensive capabilities of the site, they are well equipped for conduction of trials within Phases 2-4.
