Join Us for a Parkinson’s Disease Community Event
The event will be on site here at our clinic, so if you’re reading this and live in DeLand (or the greater Orlando area) we expect to see you here!
We’re going to have an educational talk by Dr. John Hill that will include a question and answer session afterward. You will have the chance to meet him in person and ask anything you’re wondering about Parkinson’s. There will be information on exercises that can help with balance, and you can also check out Avail’s upcoming Parkinson’s disease clinical trials if that interests you.
Last but not least, we will have free food and a raffle with a grand prize. While the primary goal behind this event is health education, we want our attendants to have fun too!
Living with Parkinson’s Disease in 2017
Did you know that between 2013 and 2015, Parkinson’s Disease claimed 6,189 Floridians’ lives?
And of course the heartbreaking effects of Parkinson’s Disease are felt beyond the borders of the Sunshine State. As many as one million Americans, and over 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s.
This chronic disease is not only devastating for the individuals who have been diagnosed, but also for the family members who witness the tremors, worry about their loved one, and suffer with him or her.
(Although it’s more often “him,” since men are 1.5 times more likely than women to have Parkinson’s.)
Spreading Awareness for Parkinson’s Disease
The risk of Parkinson’s increases with age, but an estimated four percent of people are diagnosed before age 50. Like any chronic disease, you never really expect it to happen to you or to someone near to your heart… until you get that bad news.
This is one of the many reasons spreading awareness is essential.
When you take the time out of your week to learn more, you’re not just helping yourself or your parent. You’re taking action that could benefit your entire community. During our event, you’re going to learn some very valuable things. Gaining knowledge is not only power; it’s helps establish empathy in our community and understanding.
With your participation, this can make a significant difference.
